Betty Irene (Simmons) Lorton

Betty Irene Simmons Lorton, 96, of Cowden, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, in Heartland Senior Living in Neoga, Illinois. 

Betty was born on January 25, 1925, the daughter of Johnny and Lillie (Hendricks) Simmons in Cowden, Illinois, Bowling Green Township.

She married Ennis Lorton on July 3, 1942.  Betty was a wonderful helpmate to her husband.  She farmed alongside him, hauling grain with a tractor and wagons, raised hogs, gardened, sewed their clothes, and tended to numerous other farm animals over the years.  She especially loved her dogs, taking them along with her on her four-wheeler to go mushroom hunting.  Betty enjoyed being industrious with a practical approach finding uses for just about everything.  Although Betty and Ennis did not have children, they enjoyed their nieces and nephews who loved them in return. 

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Ennis in 2008, her parents, her siblings: Dorothy, Mable, Delpha, and Violet.

Betty will be missed and fond memories of her adventurous spirit will continue on.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2021, in Mound Cemetery in rural Cowden, Illinois with Betty’s great nephew, Carson Lorton officiating.  Lockart-Green Funeral Home is assisting the family.
