Christine "Chris" Rose (Garlock) Kessler

Christine “Chris” Rose Kessler, 71, of Stewardson, IL passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 8, 2022, in HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL with loved ones by her side.

Chris was born on April 9, 1951, in Mattoon, the daughter of Donald and Marilyn “Pat” (Norris) Garlock.  She was a 1969 graduate of Mattoon High School.  Chris and Benjamin VanScyoc were married on October 25, 1969 and from that union they were blessed with one son, Aaron.  Chris and Bradley Kessler were married on March 20, 1987 and were blessed with 35 years of marriage and daughter Summer.  Chris loved the Beatles, reading historical romance novels, watching General Hospital and Gunsmoke.  She was a faithful member of the Stewardson United Methodist Church.  Her role as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend was what Chris cherished most in life.  She will be missed but the memories of her will be forever celebrated. 

She is survived by her loving husband, Brad of Stewardson; son, Aaron (Laura Tiffel) VanScyoc of Watson; daughter, Summer Rose (Marc King) Kessler of Neoga; grandchildren:  Brittany (Joey) Meyer of St. Charles, MO, Kaleb VanScyoc of Watson, Jacob VanScyoc of Charleston and Douglas King of Visalia, CA; great-grandchildren:  Madison Meyer, Adriana VanScyoc and Kaeson VanScyoc; brother, Randy (Cindy) Garlock of Mattoon and mother-in-law, Karol Kessler of Mode.

Chris was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Donna Abel; brother, Mickey Garlock; daughter-in-law, Angela VanScyoc and father-in-law, Glen L. Kessler.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2022, in Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson with Pastor David Ducommon officiating.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.  Burial will take place in Stewardson Cemetery.   A memorial has been established in her name.  Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson is assisting the family.
