Harold "Wayne" Mingus, 80, of Stewardson, IL, passed away on Thursday morning, December 22, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, in Stewardson Cemetery with military honors by the Wilbur Braughton American Legion Post 611 of Stewardson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wilbur Braughton American Legion Post 611 and mailed to Brummerstedt Funeral Home, 302 W. Main St., Shelbyville, IL 62565. Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson is assisting the family.
Wayne was born on April 2, 1942, in Cerro Gordo, the son of Harold and Bessie (Houchin) Mingus. He was united in marriage to Nancy Beals on June 12, 1966, in Stewardson. Wayne graduated from Stewardson-Strasburg High School with the class of 1960. He served in the Army in Vietnam as part of the 1st Infantry Division, 4th Cavalry "Big Red One Division".
Wayne was an over-the-road truck driver and diesel mechanic most of his life. He was a member of the Strasburg Baptist Church, serving as a trustee; member of the Wilbur Braughton American Legion Post 611 of Stewardson and the JI Case Collector's Association. He restored many antique tractors, which of course were CASE. He loved trains, enjoyed operating his model trains, mushroom hunting, watching westerns, football, and NASCAR on television.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy Mingus of Stewardson; children: Cindy (David) Foreman of Dieterich, Ronald Mingus of Stewardson, and Diana (Dewayne) Day of Strasburg; his treasured grandchildren: Brittany (Adam) Mette of Newton, Ashley Foreman (fiancé, Ryan Schellhorn) of O'Fallon, MO, and Dennis (Jeanna) Day of Effingham; great-grandchildren: Abby Mette, Bostyn Mette, and Andrew Day; sister, Leanette Libotte of Washington; stepbrother, Lester Letner of Branson, MO; in-laws: Rayleen Beals of Stewardson, Maxine (Louie) Kaufman of Stewardson, Charlie Beals of Mattoon and Jackie Beals of Wichita Falls, TX and his faithful canine companion, Nubb.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law, Tom Libotte, David Beals, Larry Beals and Gary Beals.
Wayne will be remembered as a great family man and a friend to many. He always had a big smile on his face and a great sense of humor. He never met a stranger.
