Jerry Lee Wells

Jerry Lee Wells, 77, of Mattoon, Illinois, formerly of Shelbyville, Illinois, passed away at 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 29, 2023, in the comfort of his home, with loved ones by his side. 

Jerry was born on February 24, 1945, one of 13 children, in Kirkmansville, Kentucky, to Ocus and Pauline (Hardison) Wells.  He graduated from Findlay High School in the Class of 1963 and was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War.  Jerry married Cheryl K. Jordan in 1995 and they were blessed with 27 years of marriage.  Jerry owned and operated Jerry’s Restaurant in Windsor for several years.  He was a past member of the VFW Post 4829 and Moose Lodge #1294, both of Shelbyville.  Jerry enjoyed playing pool, cooking and spending time with family and friends. 

Jerry is survived by his wife, Cheryl of Mattoon; seven children:  Jerry Wells Jr., Matthew (Stacey) Wells, April (Jason) Wells, Billie Malone, Brandi (Donnie) McCleary, Sandi (Mark) Gard and Carla (Jeremy) Easton; several grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters:  Paula (Roger) Hubner, Pam (Philip) Catona, Loretta (Brad) Agney, Barb (Donavan) Hocking, all of Shelbyville, Christy (Brent) Macklin of Findlay; brothers:  James (Becky) Wells and John (Joy) Wells, both of Shelbyville;  brother-in-law, Steve Ulmer of Strasburg; sister-in-law, Janet Wells of Shelbyville and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters:  Betty Markle and Becky Ulmer and brothers:  Larry, Raben and Edward Wells.

Honoring Jerry’s wishes, no services will be held.  Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home in Windsor is assisting the family.
