Obituary

John Ellis Walker, 87, lifelong resident of Windsor, Illinois, a loving family man and local business owner, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 21, 2023, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on September 29, 1935, in Windsor, one of 11 children born to Charles and Mary (Vogel) Walker. John married the love of his life, Joyce Hostetter on January 9, 1963, and they were blessed with 55 wonderful years together before her passing on August 8, 2018.  John was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, showing his dedication to his country and the values it stands for.  Following his service, John found his calling as a Heavy Equipment Operator. His love for the job led him to establish his own business, Walker Excavating, which he successfully owned and operated for many years. John's work was not just a job, but a passion he enjoyed every day. He loved playing in the dirt, displaying an almost childlike joy in his work.  John also had a knack for welding and mechanical work.  He attended New Beginnings Apostolic Church in Sullivan, where he found solace and faith.

John leaves behind four grandchildren:  Stephanie Tandarich of Missouri, Deana Smith of Florida, Joyce (Mike) Lewis of Windsor, and Johnny Tandarich of Mattoon; siblings:   Kenneth (Judy) Walker of Lexington, Kentucky, Earl Walker of Paris, Arletta (Gene) Dolan of Sullivan, Annetta Hortenstine of Gays, Eileen (Joe) Curry of Windsor, Dale (Lois) Walker of Windsor, Darlene (Joe) Johnson of Windsor, and Jan Bolyard of Gays; brother-in-law, Richard Schneider; many great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce; children:  Gale Tandarich, Cheryl Tandarich, and Paul Walker; grandson, Timothy Midgett; brother, Dean Walker; sister, Marilyn Schneider; sister-in-law, Linda Walker and brothers-in-law:  Ted Hortenstine and Jack Bolyard.
