Lillias Koontz Obituary

Lillias Mathie Koontz, 86, of Midwest City, OK, formerly of Stewardson, IL, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, March 12, 2022.

Lillias was born and raised in Kilmarnock, Scotland. On January 13, 1936, her parents, Mathie and Elizabeth (Orr) Richmond celebrated the birth of Lillias. As a young adult, she met and fell in love with her husband, John H. Koontz, in the United States Air Force and assigned at RAF Prestwick, Scotland. On June 16, 1956, John and Lillias joined in holy matrimony and were blessed with 65 years of loving marriage. Upon returning to the states with her husband, Lillias became a Naturalized Citizen of the United States, November 14, 1962. After four years of marriage, she became a loving mother with the birth of her daughter, Linda Zappe and two years later with the birth of her son, Dale Mathie Koontz. Throughout her life, she enjoyed family in both the United States and in Scotland and adored time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild.  Lillias was an active member in the British Wives Club and enjoyed setting up and participating in social events. She was a talented artist painting with both watercolors and oils and shared this passion with the ladies in the Stewardson area for many years.  She also enjoyed painting ceramics, sewing, knitting, crocheting, reading and after moving to Oklahoma in 2006, volunteering at Oklahoma University Hospital. Lillias is a past member of the Stewardson United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, John Koontz of Midwest City, OK (formerly of Stewardson, IL); daughter, Linda (Tom) Zappe of Champlin, MN; son, Dale (Patty) Koontz of Choctaw, OK; four grandchildren:  Kristy, Aaron, Erica and Kaylee; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and three nephews and their children in Scotland.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Peter and George Richmond.
