Linda "Teddy" Scott Obituary

It is with great sorrow that we share that Heaven gained a truly unique and gifted soul on Friday, January 27, 2023, when Linda “Teddy” Scott, 77, peacefully left this world, surrounded by her family, for her Heavenly home.

Teddy was born on January 1, 1946, in Shelbyville, the daughter of Kenzil David and Imogene Pauline Watkins (Jackson).  As the youngest of five siblings, Teddy learned the “ways of the world” by trial and error.  She was a tomboy through and through.  Her father nicknamed her “John” as she would much rather get her hands dirty by working with him in the garden or milking the cows than putting on a dress.  But when she did put on a dress, she won the Chautauqua Pageant in Shelbyville when she was in high school.  She had a love for the outdoors, her family and livestock, which made her the perfect fit for life on the farm.  She was incredibly generous with her time for the benefit of others.  She committed her time fully to raising her children (and her children’s friends) and showing them the value of hard work.  She was proud of them and was their greatest cheerleader and supporter.  She was also very proud of her daughter-in-law and three grandsons in Dallas.   Teddy shared that same love, dedication, and support with all the children whose lives she touched through her teaching and coaching career.   She taught physical education in the Tuscola and Moweaqua School Districts, coached girls’ basketball in Bethany and boys track and baseball in Findlay.  Teddy also worked side by side with Jim in helping to run Scott Farms.  She was a 1964 graduate of Findlay High School and continued her studies at Eastern Illinois University.  Teddy and James “Jim” Scott were married on November 16, 1968 and were blessed with 54 years of life together through good times and bad.  She was a member of the First Christian Church in Findlay.  She also enjoyed cooking, raising Australian Shepherd puppies, watching old western movies, bird watching, and the Fighting Illini basketball.

Teddy had a captivating personality and had a certain “sparkle” about her.  She was truly one of a kind. She kept a warm and welcoming home and was happiest when it was filled with family, friends, love and laughter.  She always had a smile on her face and a wonderful ability to make people feel special.  She was exuberant and full of life until her health problems curtailed her abilities.  The hole left by her absence will be impossible to fill but her memories will last a lifetime.

She leaves behind her loving husband, Jim of Findlay; children:  Jamie Sue Scott of Findlay, James Andrew “Andy” (Kerri) Scott of Dallas, TX and Anthony Eugene Scott of Findlay; three grandsons:  Jacob, Wesley and Brody Scott all of Dallas, TX; sister, Cindy (Gary) Towler of Terra Haute, IN; sisters-in-law:  Barbara Watkins, Mary Watkins and Nancy Beem and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, brothers: Byron Kent and Larry Kim and sisters: Audrey Ann and Phyllis Elaine (infant).

Honoring Teddy’s wishes, no services will be held. There will be a celebration of her life this spring at a date to be determined with a potentially raucous crawfish boil for her family and friends.  Remembrances may be made to the First Christian Church of Findlay, 101 S. Wall Street, Findlay, Illinois 62534.  Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville is assisting the family.
