Mary E. (Tarrant) Vonderheide

Mary E. Vonderheide, 89, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister passed peacefully in HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham on Tuesday, August 9, 2022. 

Mary was born on January 28, 1933, in Stewardson, the daughter of Floyd and Dongola (Barnes) Tarrant.  Mary and Wayne Anthony Vonderheide were united in holy matrimony on August 18, 1951 and were blessed with 69 years of marriage before his passing on May 29, 2021.  Deeply devoted to family, Mary was a nurturing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister who had many hobbies including vegetable gardening, flower gardening, bird watching, attending auctions and frequenting flea markets.  For 43 years, she shared her love and knowledge of antiques with others at Heidi’s Antiques in Stewardson.  

She is survived by her children:  Dale (Bonnie) Vonderheide of Strasburg, Brent (Michele) Vonderheide of Shumway, Christine (Gary Collins) Solis of Galveston, TX, Larry (Becky) Vonderheide of Stewardson and Jody Vonderheide of Stewardson; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and sisters:  Helen, Marcella and Jean.

Preceding her in death were her parents; stepfather, William Allsop; husband; infant son, Danny Vonderheide; daughter, Cheryl Vahling-Woodard and sisters:  Rachael and Jenny.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Monday, August 15, 2022, in Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson followed by graveside services at 1:00 p.m. in Stewardson Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the American Legion Wilbur Braughton Post 611 of Stewardson.  Arrangements are in the care of Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson.
