Nelda Clara Koontz, 89, of Lakewood, IL passed away at 5:41 p.m. on Monday, December 27, 2021, in Heartland Senior Living in Neoga, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville with Pastor Antonio Sutton officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place in Glenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Lakewood United Methodist Church and mailed to 302 W. Main Street, Shelbyville, IL 62565. Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville is assisting the family.
Nelda was born on August 14, 1932, in Lakewood Township, the daughter of Homer and Elsie Pearl (Munson) McDonald. She was a 1950 graduate of Shelbyville High School and later that year married James T. Koontz on December 3, 1950. They were blessed with 42 years of marriage before his passing on March 30, 1992. Nelda spent her entire life in the Lakewood community. She was a lifelong member of the Lakewood United Methodist Church where she was the pianist for many years. She served as a volunteer to the local American Red Cross and was a past trustee for many years on the Lakewood Township Board.
Surviving are her daughter, DiAnne (Darrell) Nohren of Lakewood; grandsons: Jason (Kelly) Nohren and Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Nohren, both of Shelbyville; six great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Andrew, William and Benjamin Nohren, Anthony and Elyse Lape, all of Shelbyville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Elsie Pearl (Munson) McDonald; husband, James; son, Douglas J. Koontz and brothers: Ervil, Wayne, Paul, C.E., and Stanley McDonald.
