Paul Montgomery Obituary

Paul Eugene Montgomery, 84, of rural Stewardson, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home in Windsor is assisting the family.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Windsor Christian Church with Pastor Patrick Fahey and Pastor Jeff Brookins officiating. Burial will take place in Upper Ash Grove Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion Post #289 of Strasburg and Post #725 of Windsor. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 16, 2018 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the Windsor Christian Church. Memorials may be made to the Pregnancy Resource Center in Shelbyville or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Paul was born on August 5, 1934, in Clinton, Illinois, the son of Rollie and Mona (Renollet) Montgomery. Paul and Marilyn June Storm were united in marriage on December 26, 1954. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force as an Airman First Class and was honored to have been a participant of the Shelby County Honor Flight. Paul was a member of the Shelby County Farm Bureau serving on the Board of Directors, Christian Homes Board of Directors, Heartland Christian Village Steering Committee, Shelby County Taxpayers Association serving as President, Illinois Taxpayers Association, Masonic Lodge #541 in Stewardson, American Legion Post #289 in Strasburg for 37 years serving as Chaplain for 13 of those years and the Windsor Christian Church where he served as a Deacon and an Elder. Paul also served as a tax assessor with Big Spring Township and was active with the Right to Life fundraiser for many years.

Paul was a lifelong farmer in the Strasburg-Windsor area. He previously owned and operated M&M Farm Supply, Montgomery Equipment, Montgomery Excavating, Montgomery & Sons Trucking and Drake Creek Sand & Gravel. He dearly loved his family and will be remembered as a master story teller and poet.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Marilyn of rural Stewardson; children: Larry (Kim) Montgomery of Windsor, Jeff (Cathy) Montgomery of Windsor, Brad (Cathy Koontz) Montgomery of Strasburg, Connie (Mike) Lay of Normal and Melissa (Paul) Lemay of Tuscola; 15 grandchildren; Twenty great-grandchildren, stepbrother Don (Elaine) Manion and stepsister Alice Zimmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, two brothers and three sisters.
