Richard Renshaw Obituary

Richard William Renshaw, known to all as Dickie Bill, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2023, at his home in Effingham, Illinois.

Born on October 13, 1933, in Strasburg, Richard was the beloved son of Glenn and Grace (Beals) Renshaw.  On June 29, 1952, he married his sweetheart, Mary Elizabeth Garrett, in Bethany.  Their union was a testament of enduring love and commitment, having celebrated 71 years of marriage before Richard’s passing.  Richard's professional career was spent at World Color Press in the shipping department, where he worked diligently for 25 years before retiring in 1985. Richard was a faithful member of the Beecher City Church of Christ. His dedication to his work and his faith were hallmarks of his character.  Richard's passions extended beyond his work and faith to the great outdoors. An accomplished sportsman, he was an Illinois State Champion in Skeet Shooting and a bronze medalist at the Illinois State Prairie Games. Richard had a love for all sports, often participating in softball and baseball games. His competitive spirit was only matched by his love for nature and the camaraderie of his fellow sportsmen.

In addition to his wife, Mary, Richard is survived by his daughters, Mary (Eric) Bridges of Latona and Grace Pike of Effingham; his son, Richard (Kathryn) Renshaw of Cumberland, Maine; seven grandchildren, Thad Bridges, Justin Bridges, Adam Pike, Chelsea Taylor, Ashley Noble, Emme Renshaw, and Hunter Renshaw; along with nine great-grandchildren, Blaine, Colton, Brittany, Bellamy, Austin, Faith, Lane, Callie, and Landen.  They will all remember him as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and his son-in-law, Robert Pike. His legacy will be carried on by his surviving family members, who will remember him as a man of integrity, kindness, and unwavering faith.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2023, in the Beecher City Church of Christ with Pastor Kevin Allen officiating.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.  Burial will follow in Stewardson Cemetery.  Memorials may be made in Richard’s name to the Shriners Children’s Hospital, 4400 Clayton Ave., St. Louis, MO 63110.  Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson is assisting the family.
