Roger Lyle Bower

Roger Lyle Bower, of Tower Hill, passed away at 1:20 a.m. at home on Friday, June 9, 2017 surrounded by loved ones.

Funeral Service will be Monday, June 12, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service and on Sunday, June 11, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Burial will be in Lookout Addition in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be made to the VFW Honor Guard.

Roger was born January 8, 1947 in Mendota, Illinois, the son of Jake W. and Alice E. (McMillen) Bower. He graduated from Cowden High School, Class of 1965 after which he entered the United States Army. Serving in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, Ft. Benning, GA, Vietnam and two tours in Korea.

After the service Roger farmed, worked in a couple of factories, ran the Clark Station in Shelbyville and then worked at the Shelbyville Post Office, retiring in 2002.

Roger met the love of his live in August 1966 and then married his wife, MyongSuk Kim in Korea on November 29, 1966.

Roger was a Life Member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4829, Shelbyville, Life Member The Disabled American Veterans, Life Member The Society of the 173rd Airborne Brigade, Life Member The
National Rifle Association, Life Member The Illinois State Rifle Association and a member of USCCA-United States Concealed Carry Association.

Roger is survived by his wife MyongSuk; sister Shirley L. Draege (Eugene) of Woodlawn, IL; brother J. Dale Bower (Shirley M.) of Decatur, IL; two nephews; three nieces; two great nephews; five great nieces and one great-great nephew.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents.
