Ruby Doreen Hicks, 92, of Lakewood, IL passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023, in HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield surrounded by the love of her family.
Ruby was born on January 18, 1931, in Fayette County, the daughter of Hestain and Ruth (Renfro) Miller. She married Cletis Wilton Hicks on December 29, 1964, in Cowden, and they were blessed with 33 years of marriage before his passing on November 12, 1998. Ruby lived a long and fulfilling life. She treasured her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren and embraced every moment with them. When not tending to her large family, Ruby could be found in her vegetable garden or sitting quietly with her bible in her hands. She was a long-time member of the Lighthouse United Pentecostal Church in Lakewood.
Surviving are her children: Donna Hicks Newton of Mattoon, Lois Baker Bertulli and husband Bob of Tampa, FL, Jesse Baker and wife Sandi of Shelbyville, Harold Scroggins and wife Deanna of Decatur, Shirley Hicks Wells and husband Rod of Rochester, Randy Hicks and wife Carol of Cowden, Job Hicks of Lakewood and Ruby Hicks Bowyer and husband Matt of Jackson, MO; stepchildren: Pat Hicks Lamb of Shelbyville and Dixie Hicks Hale of Mattoon; sisters: Daisy Logsdon of Cowden and Connie Longwell of Herrin and many, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; children: Brian Hicks, Tim Mclain, and Cletis M. “Mikey” Hicks; stepchildren: Cletis O. Hicks and Kathleen Hicks; grandson, Jason Baker; sisters: Mildred Wheeler, Delores Sinclair, Katie Morgan, and Mary Sylvester; brothers: Gene Miller, Paul Miller, and James Miller.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2023, in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 28, 2023, in Lighthouse United Pentecostal Church in Lakewood with Reverend Ronnie Brown officiating. Burial will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery in Fayette County. Memorials may be made to the Lighthouse United Pentecostal Church in Lakewood. Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville is assisting the family.
