Virginia Irene (Morrison) Rose

September 8, 1921 ~ November 29, 2020 (age 99)

Virginia Irene Rose, 99, of Windsor, IL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL.

She was born on September 8, 1921, near Bethany, the second to the youngest daughter of Ross and Alice Morrison.  She attended Lone Star and Boling Schools and graduated from Windsor High School in 1939.  Virginia worked at Brown Shoe Factory in Sullivan, after graduation, until 1942.  She married Walter E. Rose on April 4, 1942, they lived in Rock Island, where he worked at the Rock Island Arsenal and she at the local Maid Rite Hamburger Café.  Walter joined the Army Air Corp and they lived in San Antonio, TX, Laredo, TX, and Rapid City, SD before returning to Windsor in early 1944.  She was a homemaker after the birth of their son, Randal, until 1953.  Then she went to work at GE in Mattoon.  She planned to work just long enough to earn some extra Christmas money, but continued to work until she retired in 1982.  She enjoyed mushroom hunting, golfing, bowling, and working in her yard and garden.  Virginia was a fixture in the "weenie wagon" for the Windsor Harvest Picnic for many years.  She will be greatly missed by family and many friends.

Virginia is survived by her son, Randal (Linda) Rose of Monticello; three grandchildren:   Derrick Rose of Livonia, MI, Allyson (Doug) Bisby of Pawleys Island, SC and Adriene (Shane) Bowen of Murrells Inlet, SC and five great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, and six brothers and sisters.
