Wayne Anthony Vonderheide

Wayne Anthony Vonderheide, 89, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother passed peacefully at home on Saturday, May 29, 2021.  

Wayne was born on November 25, 1931, in Hammond, IL, the son of Anthony and Bessie (Keller) Vonderheide.  Wayne and Mary Tarrant were united in holy matrimony on August 18, 1951 and were blessed with 69 years of marriage. Wayne was a quiet man who garnered great respect from those who knew him.  He had a strong faith that sustained him throughout his life.  He truly never rested with the exception of Sundays, which he devoted to God and family.  

Wayne was a man of dignity who worked hard his entire life to provide for his family whom he valued above all else.  In all things, he served himself last, after seeing to the needs of his family.  He accepted whatever God gave him.    

Surviving are his loving wife, Mary Vonderheide of Stewardson; children:  Dale (Bonnie) Vonderheide of Strasburg, Brent (Michele) Vonderheide of Shumway, Christine (Gary Collins) Solis of Galveston, TX, Larry (Becky) Vonderheide of Stewardson and Jody Vonderheide of Stewardson; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Bud Vonderheide of Freeburg and Raymond (Lois) Vonderheide of Mattoon; two sisters:  Barbara Hartke of Tinley Park and Elaine Hartke of Bloomington. 

Preceding him in death were his parents; infant son, Danny Vonderheide; daughter, Cheryl Vahling-Woodard and sister, Joan Clancy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shumway followed by burial in Stewardson Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shumway.  Memorials may be made in Wayne’s name to the American Legion Wilbur Braughton Post 611 of Stewardson.  Arrangements are in the care of Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson.
